LYNCCS, Inc. (Leading Youth to Navigate College and Career Settings) is a nonprofit organization founded in 2015 by Tuoanyene Natt Sims. The organization is dedicated to assisting underrepresented students in grades 6-12 with recognizing and pursuing postsecondary goals pertaining to successful college admission, transition, and matriculation.
LYNCCS staff coach students through exploring and discovering professional interests, selecting majors, and finding colleges that offer their selected program of study. Most essentially, we coach and counsel students toward establishing personal and meaningful aspirations to attend two or four-year colleges/universities, vocational schools, or technical certificate programs.
Our goal is to ensure that students graduate with clear awareness, knowledge, and an understanding of what they will productively pursue after high school to the benefit of themselves and society. LYNCCS partners with schools, organizations, and places of worship that serve students from underrepresented populations throughout the metro Detroit area.
Tuoanyene Natt Sims is a graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. She received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Child Development in 1999 and her Master of Arts in Professional Counseling in 2002 - both from Central Michigan University. Ms. Natt-Sims is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Michigan. She also holds a Master of Arts in Employment and Labor Relations from Wayne State University. She is currently pursuing her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies also from Wayne State University.
Ms. Sims has dedicated nearly 20 years of her professional career to counseling and advising first and second-year at-risk students in higher education. Her experiences in university counseling and advising led her to realize that most of her work with students was from a reactive standpoint - once enrolled in college. A proactive approach to the preparation of the whole student is the driving force behind the founding of the organization. Ms. Sims believes that this preparation must begin before students graduate from high school. When it comes to higher education and life/career decisions, prior academic preparation may get students through college doors but mental, emotional, social, and in some respects, spiritual preparation help students persist to graduation.
